That's fine.  Maybe if your meeting is short, you can come right back afterwards. Tongue

Second reminder for the rest of you... I really hope it's not going to be just 3 of us meeting on Sunday.  That would be sooo lame... and even less people than when people were busy with finals. -_-

I'll make free Red Bean drinks for the first 10 people sign up to come.  Maybe that'll help. Grin

On a side note, do you guys plan on having dinner before this or should we start the meeting off at a restaurant somewhere?

Reminder.  Please confirm whether you are coming or not.

Thanks

*sigh* this pretty much failed, but it was worth a shot.  No  more last minute meetings next time.
289  The Meld / Club Events / Aug.22 Planning and Discussion on: August 14, 2010, 08:23:21 PM
Hey all,

There's quite a bit to cover, in terms of tabling/flyering, how teaching and competitions will work, etc.  I don't want to say this is *mandatory*, but I really want to include everyone here if possible.  And of course, I'll teach you guys the rest of the Canasta game so you can actually help the new members.

It sounds like most everyone is able to make it and will be in Berkeley the Sunday before school starts, so please let me know immediately if you cannot make it.  I will do my best to arrange something else just for you, but please - only if you absolutely cannot make it.

The absolute meeting time is on Sunday Aug.22 at 7:00pm.  The location will be at my apartment 2525 Durant (next to Asian Ghetto).  As usual, we'll be having dinner at Crossroads beforehand at 6:00 if you want to join.  Sign up on the site so I know you are able to come since some of you seem unwilling to respond to emails even though I know you read them. Tongue

Other goodies:
- Canasta Club playing cards are here! You'll each get two decks.  Cheesy
- Canasta Club business cards are here! You'll each get a hundred.
- Canasta Club banner *should* be here by the 22nd if Kurt gets it to me in time.... but look forward to that too! Tongue

On a side note, I've basically turned the site into a list serve.  You can send in your replies and also start new threads all via email.  It took me days to get this coded properly, but enjoy! Grin

Wah? Huh? Aw, but it was your idea for Friday in the first place... -_-

*Moved to tomorrow.  Also, as said before, if you can't make it - please let me know when would be better.  In particular, if you are gone all next week, let me know if you can meet the Sunday night before school starts.  Thanks!

=====================

Hi all,

I know you have finals coming up - I'm studying too. Sad (okay well not right this moment Tongue )  Anyways fall semester is starting very soon, so I want to get together a meeting the night finals are over if possible (quite a bit to cover).  The reasoning is that some people will be leaving this weekend to spend the last week of summer at home, and I want to include them here if possible.

Time and Place: Saturday, Aug.14 8pm at my apartment (2525 Durant, next to Asian Ghetto).

If you cannot make this time please let me know when would be better to meet next week.  I will still keep this meeting going but will meet with personally to fill you in later (so don't feel forced to come to this one if you *really* can't, but then I have to arrange a different time to meet you as well).

Okay, back to studying. Tongue Good luck everyone!
292  The Meld / Club Events / Aug.26 Calapalooza on: August 09, 2010, 02:57:21 AM
Calapalooza is coming up on Thursday Aug.26 from 5:30-9:00pm on Sproul (for some reason I always thought it was on Wednesday).  I expect you some of you will probably have other clubs to work with so I'll understand if you can't help with us.

If you don't though, please let me know when you're available and what shifts you want as I will be needing help moving stuff and then watching the table.  Once we get set up, you don't have to stay the whole time (we take shifts).  You're not allowed to have more than two people tabling at a time anyways, so we can switch with looking around and visiting other clubs.

However, I'd like to ask that you come set up if you plan on helping so that we know you are here etc (rather than just show up suddenly halfway through and not know what's going on).

Currently we have:
4pm-5pm = Check-in/Setup. Joy, Yurika.
5pm-5:30pm = Tabling. William
5:30pm-6:30pm = Tabling. Carol, Perlin.
6:30pm-7:30pm = Tabling. Kurt, Justine
7:30pm-8:30pm = Tabling. Kevin, Mayant
9:00pm-9:30pm = Cleanup. William, Mayant, Hiroko.

Things to do:
- Check in by 4:45pm or we lose our spot. "Check-in for tablers will begin at 3:30pm outside on the Cesar Chavez patio, to the left side of the Golden Bear Café (look for the blue and gold tent)."
- Bring flyers/cards, banner and cords from Joy's place (Unit 3).  Table and chairs already provided.
- Attach banner via bungee cords.  Flyers/cards/decks scattered nicely around table, but only hand out flyers/business cards (cards for people more interested or if they take one themselves).  Keep most of it in the boxes under the table though as you won't need *everything* out at once.

Any ideas, just send'em here! (however, Calapalooza is usually crowded so maybe it's best we just keep it simple. Tongue)

Cheers! Grin
293  The Meld / News and Announcements / First Games on Jul.30 on: July 30, 2010, 11:48:35 PM
Hey all, just wanted to thank you guys for coming tonight.  I've updated the Ladder Games with the matches we played so far.  Yes they counted. Tongue

More or less I just want to test the system before we get the club off the ground this fall.  You guys are entirely welcome to play against other members on your own and submit them online.  As you can see, right now David is highest on the ladder - we'll see how long that lasts though... him and his fishing. Grin

I will try to organize something next Friday as well around the same time.  More details will be posted later in the week, but we will be just hanging out again as well as trying to plan a few more details out on the club.

I realize entirely that you guys receive a lot of emails daily, so I will try not to send emails unless absolutely necessary.  I can only ask that you check the site at least once a week.  Important stuff will usually be here on the announcements page so you could just give it a quick glance. Grin
294  The Meld / Club Events / Aug.6 General Meeting, 8:15pm Unit 2 on: July 30, 2010, 11:47:10 PM
We will be meeting up again Friday August 6.  It will be about the same time, approximately 8:15pm at Davidson Unit 2.  We will also be meeting for dinner at 7pm as well as tennis on channing at 6pm, but those are entirely optional.  If you are interested in the dinner, let me know and I'll call you as we'll be deciding on the spot after tennis.

As for the meeting, we'll be playing as usual with one or two new people and I will try to teach you guys a few more aspects of the game, since you guys caught on so quickly.  Also should set aside some time to figure out who wants to do what in the club (as in officers) and discuss other plans (tabling, teaching, and running a tournament for fall?), but we'll cover those briefly since not everyone is able to make this meeting.
295  The Meld / Club Events / Re: Jul.30 Meet and Learn Canasta on: July 26, 2010, 08:33:41 PM
Moved to Friday Jul.30.  Same times though. No excuse not to go now. Tongue  See you guys there! Grin

Oh shoot. I realized after I said Thursday that I have a midterm the next morning D: So I will have to ditch after dinner.  Sorry...

So I did manage to get quite a few people on board with this club.  It'll be interesting to finally get you guys to all meet. Grin

I called most of you and figured out Thursday should be a relatively good day to meet for dinner and then play/learn Canasta afterwards.  For the sake of having ice cream guarenteed available, I think we will settle on Crossroads for dinner and then my apartment (next to Asian Ghetto) afterwards?

Here's the plan: Friday Jul.30
- 7:15pm = Meet in front of Crossroads for dinner.
- 8:15pm = Go to my apartment on 2525 Durant for Canasta. Grin

Anyways, I hope to see most of you there.  Let me know otherwise.  You can also sign up or un-sign up for this event on the website - you don't have to though because I already know most of who is going. Tongue

297  The Meld / News and Announcements / Canasta Club Begins! on: July 18, 2010, 07:34:30 PM
Well okay, it began about a week ago when I reminded a lot of you to finally sign up as signatories for the club. Tongue HOWEVER, there hasn't been much update towards the actual setup of the organization itself.

Anyways, I finally sat down today and decided to at least get the site up and running.  A lot of the pages here are ported from older club websites I've made, so there is some conversion to do.  You may notice some broken links and whatnot, but there should be nothing hazardous.

I think the theme fits quite nicely for the game so far.  I'm hoping someone might volunteer to help work on the graphics - maybe make it a little more cheerful and basket-related.

Feel free to make an account so we can get some official discussion going.  I have the same code running here as on my main site, so any posts put in the forum can be forwarded out and replied to (like googlegroups).

See you guys around! Grin
