Oops, super late, last minute post. Yes, there's a meeting! Smiley Cold, rainy weather means even more fun at Canasta!

136 Barrows 7pm, but we might move to Dwinelle, so call if you're late and not sure where we are! Grin

Games we're going to play tonight:
Canasta!

Don't miss the epicnessssss!

See you soon!
33  The Meld / News and Announcements / The Red 3 Strategy on: February 07, 2011, 03:50:54 PM
Most of you have probably heard of the infamous red three strategy, so I decided to dedicate a title to it Grin. And it rhymes!

Midterms are coming up soon, so that makes Canasta Fridays even more fun! Take a break from studying because this Friday (today, February 11th) will be random game night! We'll still be playing Canasta, of course, but hopefully we'll also get in a few other games, too! Munchkin, anyone? Wink

So if you have any board/card games sitting around, now's the time to bring them! And as always, bring binders if you can. With that being said, our meeting room could be moved to some random room in Dwinelle (yay Dwinelle!), so if you happen to come late, we'll probably leave a note on the door of 136 Barrows.

See everyone soon!
34  The Meld / News and Announcements / Re: Feb 4: Link likes to fish. Do you? on: February 04, 2011, 01:35:56 PM

36  The Meld / News and Announcements / Canastasize! on: January 22, 2011, 01:20:04 AM
Hey everyone! I hope the first week and a half of school was enjoyable and not too stressful, though very unlikely. =P Good news is that Canasta is still on this Friday, January 28th, in 136 Barrows!

If you haven't noticed, there has been some slight changes in the ladder ranking! Ted, our past ladder champion, has finally lost his position as number one and Shinsaku has taken his place. Luckily, this Friday's meeting will be dedicated to challenges. Anyone can challenge another person, and that person cannot refuse to play.

For new members, our field coordinators will be present to teach you the basics of the game, and maybe even a little strategy Smiley.

See everyone Friday!

p.s. - Bring any folders you have lying around! The tables in Barrows are pretty slanted.
37  The Meld / News and Announcements / Welcome Back! (First Meeting) on: January 18, 2011, 01:01:43 AM
Hey everyone, welcome back! I hope everyone's break was enjoyable Smiley.

I bet everyone has missed having Friday Canasta fun, so here's some good news! Our first meeting of the semester will be 7pm - 9pm on Friday, January 21st, in 136 Barrows!
(this will be our room every Friday)

Not a member of the club yet? Well come on out and check us out! Canasta is a strategy (or not, depending on how you want to play =P) based card game, and our club is dedicated to teaching you the essential skills needed to play, creating a community for those who just want to have a good time every Friday night, and having a little friendly competiton Smiley.

Our club features a ladder system where you can earn points by playing other members, with prizes going to the top point earners at the end of the semester. We will also be having a Tournament near the end of the semester, where you can showcase your solo skills and battle for a spot in the top three! Along with the Tournament and ladder system, we also have fun (and sometimes completely random) social events!

So come out this Friday, January 21st, 7-9pm in 136 Barrows to meet new people, learn a new game, and just relax Smiley.

i think it would be better to have it at 6pm then, since 8pm is a little late for dinner? or we can compromise and go at 7pm and frank can meet us there maybe?
40  The Meld / Club Events / Re: Reunion before break! :D on: December 08, 2010, 09:44:53 PM

41  The Meld / Club Events / Reunion before break! :D on: December 07, 2010, 08:16:19 PM
Hey everyone! So now that Canasta is over, I'm pretty sure most of you are sad and can't wait until next semester for it to start all over again, so we're having a mini reunion! The exact time/date and place have yet to be determined, but most likely this Thursday night? Please respond to this thread with the day you're free, time, and maybe even suggest a place you'd like to eat at? Smiley

I'm free this week Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday (all night time), but since a bunch of us are in cs61a, maybe we could get food after our final (Thursday after dead week)? Smiley Thoughts please!

(I know I always get lost looking for threads in the forums, so this is under forums > the meld > club events Grin)

43  The Meld / News and Announcements / Going out, all at once! on: November 13, 2010, 02:29:05 AM
It's almost the end of the semester! This means that this Friday, December 3rd, is our last meeting of the semester! Come on out to get in a few rounds of Canasta before the stress of dead week kicks in! We'll also be having another random game night, so be sure to bring any other games you have (other card games, board games, etc.)!

Also, I hope everyone has been keeping up with their ladder games because this Friday we'll also be handing out ladder awards! So be sure to come on out to our last meeting and don't forget to bring any board games you have because this Friday we're going all out with a big bang! Smiley

See you all Friday!
44  The Meld / News and Announcements / Awards Ceremony! on: November 13, 2010, 02:26:47 AM
Yaaaaaay! Now that our first semesterly tournament is over, it's time for prizes! There was a three-way tie for third place, and after much point calculating and comparing, we have our top three winners! But just to keep you all in suspense, we'll be announcing the winners at our meeting Smiley.

If you were a part of the tournament, stop by this Friday to pick up your prizes! Everyone who participated gets a participation prize, and we have special prizes for our top three winners Grin.

Also, plan on not eating dinner before the meeting because this Friday will be Chipotle Night! Come get Chipotle burritos for half price! That's $4 for a burrito!!! We'll still be playing Canasta, of course; we have to get our fill of Canasta somehow before dead week rolls around, right?

After the meeting we'll also be heading down to Shattuck to watch the new Harry Potter movie! If you haven't already told one of us you were coming, make sure to reply to this email so we can get you a ticket.  Each ticket will be $12 each.

See you all soon! Smiley

P.S. - We now have a facebook page!

Considering being an officer to help out? We have positions open! Let us know that you're interested through our Contact Page, or look at Inside the Cabinet to see what you can do. Or you can come to the meeting and talk to us in person!
